About: Peony & Hummingbird (Pivoine & Colibri)

...A plant & An animal

….A flower & A bird

I chose the peony because it means, in ancient Greek, ""proper to heal, beneficial"". The name of this flower comes from Peon, one of the oldest Greek healing gods. According to Mythology, he treated and healed Hades (god of hell) and Ares (god of war) of their wounds. The peony is therefore a medicinal plant, which heals. Its role is also to attract and feed pollinating insects. In addition, it is a flower with soft petals, delicately scented, almost ephemeral, and which is installed in our garden.

II chose to associate it with the hummingbird, which refers to the smallest bird on the planet. It is a territorial and solitary species, which participates in its own way in the creation of nature. Indeed, the hummingbird is mainly nectarivorous, that is to say it feeds on the nectar of flowers (peonies, for example!). This choice also refers to the Native American legend of the hummingbird, told here by Pierre Rabhi: One day, legend has it, there was a huge forest fire. All terrified animals, aghast, watched helplessly disaster. Only the little hummingbird was active, fetching a few drops with its beak to throw on the fire. After a moment, the armadillo, annoyed by this ridiculous agitation, said to him: ""Hummingbird! Aren't you crazy? You're not going to put out the fire with these drops of water!"" And the hummingbird replied, ""I know that, but I'm doing my part.""

Resspectful  of nature and the environment, at "Pivoine & Colibri", we do our part by limiting our impact as much as possible (consumption, waste, nuisance). This harmony, dear to our heart, constitutes the essence of our Guest House and the welcome we reserve for you. We wish you a pleasant stay.
